- The gravestone has only Harriet L McSwain. There is considerablecircumstantial evidence from the Padgett and McSwain families thatHarriet is the daughter of Wiley and Lavinia Padgett. David Holdenhas their daughter Harriet listed as Harriet L, as does the 1870census, matching the name on the gravestone of Harriet McSwain. Theage of Harriet L McSwain and Harriet L Padgett is within a year,though her date of birth on the gravestone varies from those by abouttwo years, which we often find in census ages, but matches and themovement of the two families together from North Carolina to Arkansas,and the matching of names and ages for spouses of the two families.
