  • In the 1850 census, the first US census to give the names of allfamily members, Nancy Harkins is already a widow.  I have notdiscovered her husband's name or her maiden name.

In 1860, Nancy is living in the household of her married son Asberry,in Towns County, Georgia.

The Reimer genealogy provides a date of death for both Nancy and herhusband James Harkins.  But as so often is lamentably the case, nodocumentation or explanation is given.  the place of death reportedhere is Gwinnett County, Georgia (northern Atlanta area).  The date ofdeath for Nancy is just the year 1870.  Since we know she appeared inthe census of 1870 in June, we can say she passed away in the lasthalf of 1870, lacking any further documentation to the contrary.

Other genealogies report she died in South Carolina, but provide nodate.  One genealogy says she died in Fulton County, Georgia (thecountry where Atlanta is).  The discrepancy with the above may be dueto her residence in Gwinnett County, but death in a hospital inAtlanta.
