Martha E marries Phillip K McSwain about 5 years after the census, when both families have moved are are moving to Arkansas, where theyare all enumerated in 1880 in Prairie Township of Arkansas County.Nancy J is the Jane of later censuses, who apparently never marries. She is living with Phillip and Martha in 1900, and is later withMaggie, Philip's oldest daughter and her family.
In 1880, the family are in Prairie Township (Ethel area) of ArkansasCounty.

In the 1900 census, Lavinia is living in the household of Phillip KMcSwain in Ethel. They lived nearby in the 1880 census. A womannamed Jane McSwain, age 52, is also living with him, but is called hissister. It initially seemed likely that the Jane was Wiley andLavinia's daughter Jane, but there was some confusion due to thelisting of Jane as Phillip's sister, and Lavinia as his mother. Iknew from other information that Lavinia was not his mother. Piece bypiece their relationship was clarified. The closest relationship Icould find was that Lavinia was the mother-in-law of Judith N McSwain,a cousin of Phillip.
The final piece came in October 2007, when David Holden, researchingthe line from the North Carolina side, informed me that Phillip's wifewas Lavinia's daughter. This clarified that the enumerator shouldhave listed Lavinia as mother-in-law and Jane as sister-in-law.
