Notes

  • Thomas Green is enumerated along with neighboring households of hisfather, his brother Isaac in the 1830 census for Hall County, Georgia. He is there again in 1840 along with Isaac and Daniel and his sisterElizabeth (under the name of her husband J H Moss).  Unfortunately, the US census before 1850 gave the name only of the head of household. But Thomas appears next door to his father Daniel Green, and on theother side of Daniel is Thomas' brother Isaac.  This indicated theirfamily relationship, and the ages of the members of the householdsmatched birth dates from other sources for these three.

The anonymous Green pedigree I found in World Family Tree gives theplace of death for Thomas Perry Green as Grant County, Arkansas.

The genealogy research of Richard Bates was very helpful to fill outdetails for this lineage and Thomas Perry's family in particular.Bates, in research on the Bates and Jackson families, gives the placeof death of Thomas as Saline County, Arkansas, but the burial in GrantCounty.  Bates gives the name of the Cemetery, Carter Cemetery inGrant County.  This detail adds credibility.

In addition, he is researching from within the family, since ThomasPerry Green was married to Mary Eliza Jackson.  Because of the moredetailed information I am following Bates.

Bates' information led me to think that the family were resident inGrant County, though death occurred across the county line in Saline.Grant County is just south of Saline County.  From this I suspectedthat Thomas was sick and died in a hospital or clinic in Benton, thecounty seat of Saline County, which is just a few miles north of theSaline County border.

It was less common in those days for a person to die away from home ina hospital, so perhaps he was in Benton on some business, and diedthere of an accident or some natural cause, like a heart attack.  Asource I found later states the place of residence as Saline County. So perhaps they lived on the Saline County side, but chose the burialspot in Grant County for reason of proximity, or for some familyreason unknown to us.

I note that sources indicate his wife Mary Eliza Jackson also died inGrant County, Arkansas.  Sources cited by Glenda Pool in herunpublished Green family research gives the place of death for both asSheridan, Grant, Arkansas.  Both were buried in the Carter Cemetery inGrant County.
