Mike Taylor reports that he has found documents indicating that GreenD Mullins joined his two brothers James P and George Ross, as well asone of George's sons, Martin B, to fight for the Union in the CivilWar.  Many North Georgians chose the northern side in the US CivilWar.  These Mullins Unionists were listed in the roster for Col JamesG Brown's 1st Georgia State Troops Volunteers, and later in Howard's1st Georgia US Infantry.  Another brother William F Mullins, was aCaptain in the 43rd Georgia Infantry of the Confederacy.

In 1870, we find Green and his family still in Pickens County,Georgia.  Their Post Office is reported as Jasper.  Here Green's wifeis Jane, age 30, thus born about 1840.  Jane would be Green's 2ndwife.  It is thought that Elizabeth Caldwell Green, mother of Green'schildren in these two censuses, died in or before 1868.  ButElizabeth's son Brantley doe sin t include the name of Jerrome in thelist of his brothers (see note below).

1870 Federal Census, Pickens County, Georgia, 12 July, PO Jasper, page75, Hse/Fam #585

Green's middle initial D here stands for Dolphus, which was a nicknamefor his proper middle name Adolphus.

The two forms of Green's second son's name seem to indicate that he isChristopher Columbus Mullins, which is reported by some sources.  Thebirthplace of Green is now reported as South Carolina instead ofGeorgia as in 1860.  The age of Elias in these two censuses does notmatch, as often we find.  Two additional children were born (at leastthat survived) after the 1860 census and before Elizabeth died.Reports estimate that Elizabeth died before 1868.  But I have thoughtit likely that Jerrome is also Elizabeth's son.  Details of her deathare vague.  Perhaps she died in childbirth with Jerrome.  On the otherhand, since Jerrome's name is not in the list of brothers thatBrantley records, he could be Jane's son.

Note that Pearson's middle initial in the census is J.  CharlotteClaborn reports that family sources indicate it was B, and further, his brother Brantley reported that his name was McPierson, rather thanPearson.

"Doctor Brantley Mullen in his eastern cherokee application stated hisbrothers names were:  Christopher Columbus Mullins, Elias MullowMullins, Mc Pierson B. Mullins, and that he had no sisters."

Based largely on this record, I am considering that Jerrome is the sonof Green and his second wife Jane.  Going by his age in the 1870census and the resulting estimated birth year, this would also meanthat Elizabeth died before 1862.
